US-Iran peace talks continue despite Iran’s claims of breakdown, says President Trump

US President Donald Trump has rejected reports suggesting that peace talks between Washington and Tehran have collapsed. He said that negotiations with Iran are still ongoing, despite recent speculation about a possible pause in discussions. In a post on Truth Social, Trump dismissed claims that both sides had stopped communicating in recent days, describing them as “false and erroneous”.

“Fake News Reports that the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the USA, stopped speaking a few days ago are false and erroneous,” Trump wrote. The US President further stated that discussions between American and Iranian officials have continued without any interruption over the past several days.

“The conversations between us have been going on continuously, including four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago, and today,” he said.

Ongoing Differences in US-Iran Talks Over Key Regional Issues

While communication channels between the United States and Iran remain open, major disagreements continue over conflicts in Lebanon and Gaza. Iran had earlier suspended talks, citing ongoing Israeli military operations in both regions. Tehran’s nuclear programme and the continued tensions over the Strait of Hormuz blockade are also major sticking points in the negotiations.

The unclear direction of the talks has raised doubts about whether ongoing contact can lead to meaningful diplomatic progress.

“Where they lead, one never knows, but as I told Iran, ‘It’s time, one way or another, for you to make a deal. You’ve been doing this for 47 years, and it cannot be allowed to go on any longer!’”

Iran Says It Has Suspended Talks With US

A day earlier, Iran announced that it has paused indirect negotiations with the United States through mediators, blaming Israel’s continued military actions in Lebanon and Gaza.

According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, Tehran believes the conditions for talks no longer exist, as ceasefire commitments have been violated.

“Given the continuation of the Israeli regime’s attacks in Lebanon, and considering that Lebanon had been one of the preconditions for a ceasefire — which has now been violated on all fronts, including Lebanon — the Iranian negotiating team is suspending talks and exchanges of texts through mediators,” Tasnim reported.

Trump Shrugs Off Diplomatic Setback

Despite Iran’s announcement of suspending talks, US President Donald Trump appeared unconcerned about the possible breakdown in negotiations. Speaking to CNBC, he said he was not worried about Iran pausing communication.

“I don’t care if they’re over, honestly. I really don’t care. I couldn’t care less,” Trump said.

Israel-Hezbollah Exchange Fresh Strikes

The situation in the region continues to worsen as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah rise again. Earlier, Trump had announced an agreement aimed at reducing violence between Israel and Hezbollah. In a post on Truth Social, he said both sides had agreed to stop hostilities.

“Both sides had “agreed that all shooting will stop — that Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel”.” However, the agreement quickly fell apart.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later ordered new strikes in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah also rejected the reported ceasefire understanding and continued attacks on Israel.
