Chinese President Xi Jinping has voiced grave concerns over the ongoing war in the Middle East, stating that it has led to devastating losses for people in the region and is not in the common interests of the global community. Speaking at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Xi called for the members of the group to take up a bigger role in helping to ensure global peace and stability. His comments came at a meeting where world leaders have been discussing wars, international security and the effects these have on developing countries.

What did Xi Jinping said?

Xi said the war in the Middle East has brought terrible losses to the people of the region, and that it is not serving the interests of the international community.

The Chinese leader also called for BRICS countries to take a leading role in protecting peace and stability, encouraging greater cooperation within the group on key global issues and said they should act collectively if international peace and security are undermined.

Xi also said that BRICS nations should take up the “right side of history”. His message comes as the group seeks to boost its profile in the world and promote more co-operation between developing and emerging economies.

China seeks peace in Middle East

Xi said China is willing to work with BRICS members to play its role in helping to bring peace and calm to the Middle East and Gulf region, which has seen ongoing conflict, with the effects being felt far beyond the countries directly involved.

The fighting has also raised concerns about energy supplies, trade, shipping and the wider world economy. To many developing countries instability in the Middle East can also mean increased costs and new economic challenges.

China has long called for dialogue and an end to fighting in the region, and at the BRICS meeting, Xi reiterated peace and co-operation as a priority.

Xi announces China will host 2027 BRICS Summit

Xi also announced that China will hold the 2027 BRICS Summit. The news came as the leaders of the group met in New Delhi, to discuss a range of issues including war, security and the effects these have on developing countries.
