The tri-series clash between England and Pakistan turned into a heated affair on Sunday after Haris Rauf was involved in a verbal altercation with all-rounder Will Jacks. Playing at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, England were bowled out for 241 after being put in to bat. In reply, Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Shadab Khan held firm with an unbeaten 113 off 96 balls to guide the hosts to a thrilling one-wicket victory. The win was Pakistan’s third successive triumph in the series and secured their place in the final.
The incident occurred during the 46th over of Pakistan’s chase. Sam Curran banged in a short delivery to Shadab, who was batting on 99 at the time. While Shadab appealed for a wide, the cameras shifted focus to Haris Rauf at the non-striker’s end, where he was seen exchanging words with Will Jacks.
As the argument escalated, Rauf aggressively moved towards Jacks with his bat in hand. The on-field umpire quickly stepped in to diffuse the situation and prevent it from worsening. Moments later, England veteran Joe Root also intervened, acting as a peacemaker and escorting Rauf away from the confrontation.
Talking about the match, Shadab Khan’s maiden century rescued Pakistan from a dire situation and took them to a stunning one-wicket victory over England in the ODI in Lahore on Sunday, booking the hosts’ spot in the final of the tri-series.
Defending a modest 242-run target, England were on the cusp of victory with the home team reduced to 154-9, but Shadab’s unbeaten 113 condemned Harry Brook’s side to a third defeat in five days in the series, which also involves Sri Lanka.
England, who failed to defend a 430-run target against Sri Lanka on Thursday, were left stunned as number 11 Haris Rauf cracked the winning boundary with 17 balls to spare, sparking huge celebrations in the Pakistan dug-out.
Haris, who scored an unbeaten seven, ably played his part in a match-winning 89-run partnership with Shadab for the last wicket.
