Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Chhattisgarh has the potential to become one of India’s leading tourist destinations in the coming years, as the removal of obstacles posed by Naxalism opens up new opportunities for tourism development in the state.
Highlighting Chhattisgarh’s natural beauty, rich tribal culture and historical heritage, Shah said the state has immense potential to attract both domestic and international tourists. He noted that its magnificent waterfalls, dense forests and cultural diversity could help it establish a distinct identity on India’s tourism map.
Shah particularly highlighted the tourism potential of Bastar, stating that destinations such as Chitrakote, Tirathgarh and Kanger Valley, along with the region’s famous Bastar Dussehra celebrations, could gain wider recognition among tourists.
He also emphasised that the growth of tourism in Chhattisgarh would create new employment opportunities for local youth, while bringing greater visibility to the state’s cultural and natural heritage.
The Union Home Minister’s remarks underline the opportunities emerging for Chhattisgarh’s tourism sector following the removal of Naxalism-related obstacles, particularly in regions such as Bastar, which are known for their scenic landscapes, waterfalls, forests and distinctive tribal traditions.
