Anant Singh’s U-turn: Mokama MLA distances himself from Jan Suraaj nominee following Patna Graduates’ seat defeat

In a surprising development following the Bihar Legislative Council elections, Mokama MLA Anant Singh has claimed that he does not even know Jan Suraaj candidate Dr Anuj Singh, despite actively campaigning for him.

Explaining his decision after the election outcome, Anant Singh said his support for the candidate was driven entirely by personal resentment towards Janata Dal (United) candidate Neeraj Kumar.

Conceding defeat even before the final results were formally declared, the Mokama legislator said voters ultimately decide the outcome of an election. He noted that candidates who secured the public’s trust emerged victorious, while those who failed to do so lost.

Anant Singh also traced the origins of his dispute with Neeraj Kumar to a legal matter, alleging that the JD(U) leader had taken the issue to Delhi.

He said that after learning about this, he decided to retaliate by opposing Neeraj Kumar in the constituency.

However, Anant Singh acknowledged that the limited time available for campaigning had hampered his efforts, leaving his candidate with insufficient time to build adequate support among voters.

Addressing his recent expulsion from the JD(U) over alleged anti-party activities, Singh said he held no resentment towards the party leadership.

He clarified that he had no intention of returning to the JD(U), adding that the decision on whether to reinstate him rested entirely with the party’s top leadership.

Speaking about his relationship with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Singh said he would continue meeting him but expressed disappointment over the way he had been treated, remarking that the situation could have been different under better circumstances.

Singh also declined to congratulate Neeraj Kumar on retaining the Patna Graduates’ constituency seat, saying he would consider his future political moves only if the JD(U) leader contacted him directly.

Accepting the electoral defeat, Singh said votes could not be bought and that winning and losing were an inherent part of the democratic process.

He reiterated that neither his son nor his nephew had contested the election, stressing that his campaign was not driven by personal or family interests but solely by his dispute with Neeraj Kumar.

His remarks have sparked fresh speculation in Bihar’s political circles over his future relationship with the JD(U) and its leadership.
