Speaking at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Xi called for the members of the group to take up a bigger role in helping to ensure global peace and stability. Xi said the war in the Middle East has brought terrible losses to the people of the region, and that it is not serving the interests of the international community.
The Chinese leader also called for BRICS countries to take a leading role in protecting peace and stability, encouraging greater cooperation within the group on key global issues and said they should act collectively if international peace and security are undermined.

China seeks peace in Middle East
Xi said China is willing to work with BRICS members to play its role in helping to bring peace and calm to the Middle East and Gulf region, which has seen ongoing conflict, with the effects being felt far beyond the countries directly involved.
The fighting has also raised concerns about energy supplies, trade, shipping and the wider world economy. To many developing countries instability in the Middle East can also mean increased costs and new economic challenges.
China has long called for dialogue and an end to fighting in the region, and at the BRICS meeting, Xi reiterated peace and co-operation as a priority.
