Ranabaali movie X review
Ranabaali is set in the 19th-century colonial India backdrop, focusing on the Rayalaseema region between 1854 and 1878.
Ranabaali plot, storyline
The plot follows Ranabaali, a folkloric figure and rebellious warrior who rises up to protect his region, community, and land against severe British colonial exploitation, drought, and oppressive grain export policies during the Great Madras Famine of 1876–1878.
The Great Famine took the lives of more than 10 million Indians and exposed the brutal policies of the British Raj, which looted an estimated 45 trillion dollars from India. The movie sheds light on the unorganised rebellions that emerged in famine-stricken Rayalaseema.
Ranabaali explores a turbulent historical period through its central characters.
Interestingly, the third time Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna have worked together, following Geetha Govindam (2018) and Dear Comrade (2019).
Ranabaali cast
The film boasts a strong ensemble cast, with Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead with international actor Arnold Vosloo, further adding to its global appeal.
