Lamine Yamal produced a record-breaking performance as Barcelona defeated Rayo Vallecano 5-2 at Camp Nou on Monday, August 31. The 19-year-old scored twice to reach 50 goals for Barcelona and helped the defending La Liga champions maintain their perfect start to the season.

Yamal scored Barcelona’s second goal in the 21st minute before completing his brace in the 90th minute. His first strike marked his 50th goal for the Catalan Club, while his late goal took his tally to 51.

Yamal breaks Mbappe’s record

Yamal became the youngest player in the history of Europe’s top five leagues to score 50 club goals, surpassing the previous mark held by Kylian Mbappe. According to the information provided, Yamal reached the milestone at 19 years and 49 days. Mbappe had achieved the feat at 19 years and 241 days, while Erling Haaland was third at 20 years and 196 days.

The Barcelona youngster also became the youngest player to score 50 goals for the club, breaking a record that had stood for decades. Josep Escola previously held the record after reaching 50 goals at 20 years and 356 days, while Lionel Messi achieved the milestone at 21 years and 120 days.

Barcelona beat Rayo Vallecano 5-2

Rayo Vallecano took an early lead through Sergio Camello in the 12th minute, but Barcelona quickly responded. Raphinha equalised in the 19th minute before Yamal put the hosts ahead two minutes later.

Barcelona added to their advantage after the break when Florian Lejeune scored an own goal. Camello reduced the deficit with his second goal in the 59th minute, but Raphinha struck again in the 71st minute to restore Barcelona’s two-goal advantage. Yamal completed the scoring in the 90th minute with his second goal of the night, sealing a 5-2 victory for Barcelona.

Yamal’s remarkable Barcelona rise

Yamal’s latest milestone adds another significant chapter to his rapid rise at Barcelona. He scored his first goal for the club in La Liga against Granada and became the youngest goalscorer in Barcelona’s history across all competitions, as well as the youngest player to score in Spain’s top flight.

With his latest brace, Yamal has now reached 51 goals for Barcelona, while his performance against Rayo Vallecano also helped the club secure a third consecutive league victory.
