8th Pay Commission news: From Level 1 to 18, how much salaries may rise for Central govt employees?

8th Pay Commission: After the 8th Pay Commission was approved, employees are curious about how much their salaries will rise. So far, no official details have been released about the new pay structure or salary increases. Experts have made estimates to predict the possible salary hikes. Let’s see how much employees from Level 1 to Level 18 could get.

According to reports, the increase in salary and pension will depend on the fitment factor. A committee headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai will determine this. The central government will then review it, and the entire process is expected to be completed by the second half of 2027.  The implementation could then be announced during the festive season.

8th Pay Commission: What could the fitment factor be?

Experts believe that the fitment factor under the 8th Pay Commission could be between 1.70 and 2.86, and it could be applied uniformly to employees of all levels. According to them, a uniform fitment factor provides equal benefits to all employees, but the increase in monetary terms is higher for those in higher positions.

Estimated salary hikes under 8th Pay Commission

1. With 2.15 Fitment Factor:

  • Level 1: Rs 18,000 → Rs 38,700 (Increase of Rs 20,700)
  • Level 10: Rs 56,100 → Rs 1,20,615 (Increase of Rs 64,515)
  • Level 18: Rs 2,50,000 → Rs 5,37,500 (Increase of Rs 2,87,500)

2. With 2.86 Fitment Factor:

  • Level 1: Rs 18,000 → Rs 51,480 (Increase of Rs 33,480)
  • Level 3: Rs 21,700 → Rs 62,062 (Increase of Rs 40,362)
  • Level 6: Rs 35,400 → Rs 1,01,244 (Increase of Rs 65,844)
  • Level 10: Rs 65,844 → Rs 1,60,446 (Increase of Rs 1,04,346)

3. With 1.7 Fitment Factor (for lower-level employees):

  • Level 1: Rs 18,000 → Rs 30,600
  • Level 3: Rs 21,700 → Rs 36,890
  • Level 6: Rs 35,400 → Rs 60,000

What is Fitment factor?

Fitment factor is a numerical multiplier used to revise the basic pay and pensions of central government employees when a new pay commission comes into effect. Several economic and institutional aspects are considered when determining the fitment factor. Typically, it is calculated by using the basic pay + grade pay as the base and assessing the necessary increase.

For example: If an employee’s current basic salary is Rs 18,000 and the fitment factor is set at 2.64, then: Rs 18,000 × 2.64 = Rs 47,250. This means the basic salary will directly increase to Rs 47,250.
